Crypto industry lost $163M to hacks in August
The cryptocurrency industry lost a total of $163 million across 16 separate hacking incidents in August, blockchain security firm PeckShield reported. The largest portion of the losses, $91.4 million, came from a single BTC holder. This was followed by hacks targeting BtcTurk and odin.fun, which resulted in losses of $54 million and $7 million, respectively. The total for August marks an approximately 15% increase from the $142 million lost in July.

Jump Crypto is the suspected market maker for WLFI, according to on-chain analyst ai_9684xtpa. Approximately 15 minutes ago, the multisig address for World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a DeFi project linked to the Trump family, sent a test transfer of 47 WLFI to Jump Crypto.

Metaplanet buys another 1,009 BTC, now holds 20,000 BTC
Metaplanet, a publicly traded Japanese firm that has adopted Bitcoin as a key corporate asset, announced on its official X account that it has purchased an additional 1,009 BTC. The company now holds a total of 20,000 BTC.

Peter Schiff: Gold and silver to rise further, Bitcoin to fall
Cryptocurrency skeptic Peter Schiff, CEO of Euro Pacific Capital, stated on X that spot gold is trading just below its all-time high at $3,460 per ounce, while silver has surpassed $40. He predicted that both precious metals are likely to see further gains when U.S. markets open on Sept. 2, whereas Bitcoin is likely to move in the opposite direction.
Schiff had also previously noted that BTC, often called digital gold, was down more than 13% from its all-time high. He added that the cryptocurrency is struggling despite significant hype, U.S. government support, and corporate buying.

BTC could test $105K amid intensifying whale sell-off, analyst says
Bitcoin could see a short-term correction to $105,000 as long-term whales continue to sell, Cointelegraph reported.
According to analyst Ted, an anonymous, original long-term Bitcoin holder sold a total of 32,000 BTC and subsequently purchased 870,000 ETH, valued at $3.8 billion, over the past two weeks. The analyst added that this whale still holds over 50,000 BTC and is highly likely to convert this amount into ETH as well.
Cointelegraph noted that the market is currently dominated by sellers. The outlet also analyzed that the lack of inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs, due to the U.S. stock market being closed today, will likely act as a headwind for the market.

WLFI multisig address transfers 17.6B tokens
A multisig address for World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a DeFi project linked to the Trump family, transferred 17.63 billion WLFI to an address starting with 0xFef approximately two hours ago, on-chain analyst ai_9684xtpa reported. Of that amount, five billion WLFI was returned to the multisig address.
The transaction is the largest from the address in the past eleven months, though its purpose remains unclear. Meanwhile, WLFI is scheduled to be listed on Binance, Kraken, HTX, and KuCoin on Sept. 1.
